
Bangkok has been voted the Best City in Asia in 2006 (as the fifth consecutive year) according to an Internet survey conducted by Travel+ Leisure Magazine. At a global level, Bangkok is the third Best City in the World with 86.11% votes, after Florence (87.09%) and Rome (86.15%).
What's more, Chiang Mai, known as the Rose of the North of Thailand came in as the second Best City in Asia and the fifth at a global level.
On 6 October, 2006, Mr. Apirak Kosayodhin, Bangkok Governor, received the prestigious award from Ms. Nancy Novogrod, Senior Vice President & Editorial Director of Travel+Leisure Magazine.


Regarding the criteria for "best cities", Mrs. Juthamas Siriwan, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Governor, mentioned that they included sights, culture&arts, restaurants/food, people, shopping and value for money. Mr. Isara Sunthonwat, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's Spokesman also added that the fact that Bangkok ranked best city in Asia for the fifth time is a guarantee that Bangkok is a beautiful metropolis with unique and charming arts and culture, high-quality delicious food and attractive shopping opportunities.
